She hissed to herself as she tried to focus on meditation. Bernardo was again having one of his late night parties where are all of the men were invited. “Doesn’t he ever sleep?!” -Biset Nkrumah

The avid gamer patiently waited for his turn.

Bernardo was never accustomed to sitting still for long, let alone a free painting.

The Vignettes

"Dominoes, carved from bones, perhaps the bones of bad mischievous men that attempt to cheat?!"

Bernardo Labroso exclaimed as he poured the dominoes out from the pouch carefully and on to the table.

"An ironic fate, no?" He gave a boisterous laugh. "What? Nobody eager to join? I can't imagine why, unless you're afraid that you'll be added to the collection!" He said with a wide eyed stare, mostly for an effect to be had with Mrs. Berkshires younger children that watched wearily from a distance.

Hearing the sound of Pascal Hurteau playing his harmonica over by the window roused Bernardo's attention.

"Pascal, you never play, and you always have a good story to tell, come on, play, just one round!"

Pascal gave a smile, and decided to stand up and approach Bernardo's table, and take a seat as he pocketed his harmonica.

"I don't suppose you have any fun stories to tell for the day do you, perhaps you came across a nicer pair of shoes than usual today?"

"You'd think a man in a top hat would give me more than a tip."

"Oh, how so?" Bernardo asked while flipping the dominoes. “Let me guess, merely the tip of his hat hm?”

"Precisely…” Sighed Pascal as he cast his eyes over the dominoes.

"Tip of a hat is pretty good for a tramp at any rate. Fortunately, times are not so hard.”

"Bread to eat, wine to drink. That's what my mother always used to tell me back in the old country."

"I don't suppose they have top hats in those parts?"

Bernardo grimaced with his face before giving a friendly chuckle. "Oh hardly, the best shoes though. . . certainly!"
